General Questions

How do I enter my name if it contains a special character?

In the Windows Search Bar type “Character Map”, select the character, copy and paste where it is required.

I do not have a middle name, what should I do?

You should just press the space bar.

I do not have one of the required telephone numbers, what should I enter?

Re-enter the same telephone number for all the fields.

As an overseas applicant, how do I enter my telephone number?

Using the format given, just enter all zeros. (000)-000-0000

What format should be used for the documents to be uploaded?

You should use PDF, a photo or word document.

How do I upload the documents?

In the Supporting Documents section, Click on “UPLOAD DOCUMENT” icon and proceed.

What do I do if I can no longer access my application?

Click on forgot password. 

  1. A new password will be sent to the email address with which you registered.
  2. Login with your new password.

If this does not resolve the issue please contact your institution.

Where can I find the application number?

The application number can be found on the top left-hand corner of your application PDF document which was emailed to you under “Application ID” in the Personal Information Section.

Should I receive a confirmation email?

Yes. You should receive a confirmation email within one (1) Business day of submitting your application.

What if I don't get a confirmation email?

If one (1) business day has passed you should receive a confirmation email

How many applications can I submit per year?

Only one application per institution can be submitted by an applicant.

ONLY one full-time application of ONE choice can be submitted by an applicant.

Where do I add a 2nd choice to my application?

ONLY one full-time application of ONE choice can be submitted by an applicant.

How and When will I be notified if I am successful?

When the application process is completed by June 30, 2024, the SJPI Student Services Division will notify you via the email address submitted on the application form.

After submitting the application form, what happens next?

Note that you must be in possession of the CSEC certificate and must NOT be sitting the examination for Mathematics or English Language (A) this year.  Proof of the Original CSEC Certificate or Grade slip should be uploaded with your application when applying.  

If you are required to take the SJPI’s Entrance Examination, you will be notified of the examination date to the email address submitted on the application. Persons with Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate Passes, Grade 1 -111 in Mathematics and/or English are exempted from the Entrance Examination for which they have the CSEC certificate.

When do the classes start?

The academic year would normally commence in August.

Does SJPI start in September with the government primary and secondary schools?

No, SJPI 2024-2025 Academic Year for example will begin on August 26, 2024.

If accepted, can the full-time registration fees be paid in installments?

Unfortunately, the SJPI does not accept payments in installments for Full-time registration fees.

How old must I be to attend SJPI?

Applicants MUST be at least 16 years old by August 31, of the applied year.

Applicants to the Certificate in Nursing Auxiliary Studies MUST be at least 18 years old by August 31, of the applied year.

If I want to change my application programme, what do I need to do?

After submitting the application, you will NOT be able to make any changes to the information online.

  • DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CREATE OR MAKE ANOTHER APPLICATION.
  • Should you need to make a change to your application, please visit www.sjpi.edu.bb,
    1. Go to Prospective Students
    2. Document Library for Prospective Students
    3. Complete the SS1A – Application Change Form or SS16A – Change of Applicant Personal Information.

Is there an application fee?

Early applications are free (Before March 31).

When is the application deadline?

The closing date for early applications is Sunday, March 31, 2024.

I missed the early deadline, how do I submit a late application?

The closing date for late applications is Tuesday, April 30, 2024

 Late applications will only be received for the undersubscribed programmes. 

There is a non-refundable late application fee of $40.00 and this MUST be paid to the SJPI Cashier before completing the application at the SJPI.

Do I have to possess CXC passes in Mathematics and English to be accepted to SJPI?

Full-time applicants who do not possess a Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) in English and Mathematics, will be required to sit the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) Entrance Examination in English and Mathematics (multiple choice).  

The Examination will be conducted online and be held during the period May 07 – 10, 2024.

As a non-national, what documents do I need to support my application?

Applicants who were born outside of Barbados are required to submit original documentation containing their immigration status along with copies to the Student Services Department one week after the application is submitted online or with the application form.

Applications will not be accepted or processed without the required documentation.

Can I be exempted from the SJPI Entrance Exam if I have the City & Guilds or CXC (CSEC)English and Mathematics?

Applicants with the full City & Guilds English Language and or full Mathematics certificate will be exempted from the SJPI Entrance Examination.

Is the programme registration fee for 1 semester or 1 academic year?

The Registration Fee is for one (1) academic year or two (2) semesters.
